Beautiful B.C. Getaway in Nature
Ruby Lake Resort on the Sunshine Coast B.C., in Madeira Park, is a Natures Paradise and definitely somewhere to add to your list to experience.
I went solo with my Son to immerse ourselves in Natural B.C.
Just to get there is an adventure in itself, on a short ferry ride from Vancouver B.C. Where we saw Orcas, and seals amongst other sea life on the way!
The Drive along the Sunshine coast is Magical.
It's somewhere to just get away from it all and rejuvenate your mind, body and soul.
Peaceful, Tranquil serenity, for book reading, meditation, bird watching, wildlife, with Eagles, sunning turtles, hummingbirds are daily visitors on this magical resort.
PET FRIENDLY so you don't have to leave your furloves behind!
Amazing Unique accommodations for all types from Cottages, Tents, Glamping Tents and Cabins!
An Italian Friendly Family owned resort that celebs you may know have been, raving about the exquisite menu, made from Farm to Plate, with Chef Aldo himself, look up menu. Have a napkin ready for drooling.
Enjoy, swimming, kayak, canoe, paddleboard, hiking, yoga, breathing in the fresh air, and sensory overload with Nature!
The Water is my meditation, absolutely serene, but also with breathtaking scenery, sunsets, star gazing, cloud formation watching, so much to see.
A truly relaxing, marvel to be there for all ages.

Lipstick on pig still a pig!
Definitely not worthy of the title resort, hobo park maybe more suitable.
It’s kinda like if you pitch a tent on the downtown east side without the cars.
But seriously don’t waste your money, many other nice places in that area.

DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR MONEY!
My daughter and I (aged 5) traveled to Ruby Lake this past week and had planned to stay 2 nights. Upon arrival, I enquired if, should we choose to stay longer, there would be any availability; we were told the cabin we were staying in was available extra nights, all the way until the Saturday, in case we wanted to stay longer, and also that there were other spaces available, in case we wanted to move during our stay.
Ruby Lake Resort had become our favourite little travel destination, with its proximity to the lake, and the little hiking paths, wildlife, etc. We had been to Ruby Lake 2 times in the past, on both occasions, staying in a cottage near the pond and enjoyed our short trips on both occasions.
On this particular occasion, however, we opted to stay in a cabin. Since we are hoping to camp at some point in the future, this seemed like an ideal opportunity to test the waters out, without being too exposed to the elements/possible bears, etc. but still not having the creature comforts of home right within our unit (bathroom, running water, etc.)
The cabin was really small, yet sweet, and we were excited to have a camping adventure of sorts.
Upon waking in the morning, my daughter and I headed to the shared bathroom/showers, to brush our teeth, shower, and get ready for the day.
We walked into the large, shared space (2 showers, 2 bathroom stalls, 2 sinks) to find someone already in one of the showers. We began to brush our teeth in the approximate sinks. Then, this individual began HORKING into the shower, which is obviously, disgusting, and behaviour, that should one choose to do it, should only be happening in the privacy of one's own home. Did my best to ignore. Said nothing. Continued to brush our teeth. Then, this same individual began to brush her teeth in the shower - at which point, I finally got up the courage to inform her that the showers are shared showers, and that she should not be spitting into them. I did so by speaking loudly from the area we were in, towards the showers (which have curtains).
At first, she was confused and said, "you don't spit in the shower?" And I said, "no. She seemed apologetic at first, and said, "Oh, sorry about that." And then I said something to the effect of, "Yeah, that's not something that's done here" (meaning, in a public shower), but then she began to say, "I hope you want to be famous, cause your face is going to be everywhere, Karen!" Keep in mind, she then shouted that I was "Trash", told my 5 year old she "felt sorry for her" and told me to take it up with management.
I guess she must have not realized I had my phone on me, and I began to call them right there, requesting their assistance for a guest who was now shouting at both me and my daughter, scaring my child. Once she realized they answered, she began saying she was "calling the police" on me for "assaulting her!" though she was over 8 feet away, and in the shower.
While management was on the phone, they refused to send anyone, saying "well, what do you expect us to do? We can't leave the front desk. We're understaffed. I'll send house-keeping".
I informed them someone would need to come NOW as things were getting out of hand, and my child was crying and shaking from the way this woman was behaving. Also that spitting in the shared shower is completely unhygienic, and considering we just went through a pandemic, they should at the very least be speaking to her about that.
With no help from management, my daughter and I exited the shared area, and fled to the larger area where food, etc. is kept. Along the way, we could still hear the lady shouting at the top of her lungs. Another camper mentioned to us that he and his wife had seen her on the way TO the showers, and that she seemed to be "unhinged". Great. I mean, I guess I could have figured this out from the horking and spitting in the shower, but c'est la vie. Anyhoo,
The woman eventually left the bathroom, marched past the shared food area (where we were now eating our breakfast) in her towel, and shouted, "the police are here! they're looking for you!" Which was just, I mean, next-level crazy, considering I had done NOTHING to involve police, and there was ZERO chance there were any police on site, given Ruby Lake Resort is in the boonies. After she was out of earshot, another camper at the resort said something to the effect of "well if the police are ACTUALLY here, they can take one look at the two of you, and know which of you is actually the problem. I'm so sorry she's behaving like this towards you and your child".
Next, the lady returned fully dressed, to the food area, and began to film my daughter and I, and began to follow me around as I did dishes, looked for coffee filters, etc., calling me "Karen" and saying 'cray-cray" over and over again. My kid was frightened, and once again began to shake and cry. The woman continued to film us, putting the camera in my face.
Another camper, the wife of the man with whom we spoke earlier, suggested I call management again, and complain about this camper, since she was continuing to harass us, and was now, apparently, filming the other campers on site as well.
I called down to management, and once again, they claimed there was "nothing they could do to assist" , and said, "there are 2 sides to every story." I told her there were several witnesses to this woman's behaviour, and that she wasn't just harassing me and my child now, but was also filming others as well. I enquired as to how long this lady would be staying and they told me they "couldn't tell me" since they "didn't know who she is".
Then, the lady drove past with her husband and their dog, and filmed us through the window. It was seriously so invasive and such crazy behaviour, I couldn't believe management wouldn't intervene.
At this point, I realized the situation was unsafe, and I could not possibly subject my daughter to any more trauma by staying there a minute longer. I went to get my key, and realized I no longer had it.
I called down to management to see if someone had turned in my key, and they did not answer the call.
After multiple calls, they finally answered, and told me housekeeping had found it in the shared bathroom area and brought it to the front desk.
Still in our pyjamas, my daughter and I hiked our way down to the front desk to retrieve the key to our cabin. Upon arrival, the woman there told us the other guest had checked out. I was extremely upset by this point, mostly with how management chose to NOT handle the situation, and informed the lady I would like to speak to the manager. Once again, she claimed there were "2 sides to every story" - at which point, I again told her, there were tonnes of witnesses to what was going on, they only had to ask.
At this point, Aldo (the owner) came out. He told me he was sorry but there was nothing they could do. That it was an issue between me and the other camper and that they couldn't get involved. He suggested, now that the lady had checked out, that my daughter and I should go and "take a load off, and relax by the lake". But I simply could not stay in a place that I felt would allow it's occupants to be harassed like that, especially given that one of these guests was a little 5 year old girl. I informed both him and the lady at the front desk that I would like to check out, and that I did not want to be charged for the night. They agreed to allow us to leave early and not be charged.
My daughter and I, both now in tears, because our special place that we had been looking forward to for at last a month had been marred with such a bad experience, went to our cabin to clean it out and pack up our car. It took us roughly 20 minutes, and afterwards, we went to return the key. My daughter asked if it would be okay for her to remain in the car, since the car was parked right next to the check out desk. I told her that was fine.
Upon returning the key, I noticed I had accidentally left the lock attached to it, and pointed this out to Aldo. He then told me, "oh, that's ok. And he took the lock off and handed it back to me - almost oblivious to the previous conversation in which I told him I'd be checking out.
So I reminded him. "I'm checking out." To which he said, "you know, I'm not refunding you your money." And I said, "but you said we could check out and not be charged." To which he replied, "it's your own fault. You brought this on yourself! You know, I feel bad for the other lady! You should have left her alone! She was minding her own business in the shower - you can't control what people do in there! She can spit in the shower if she wants to!" I replied, "that's extremely unhygienic" Aldo then replied, "Well, why not? She's washing her private parts in there, people wash their private parts in the showers, they can piss in there if they want to! I'm not refunding your money. I'm only going to refund you $100".
I said, "fine, then we'll go back and stay in the cabin, and I'll tell all the other campers what you told me, that people can piss and spit in the showers if they want to" - to which he said, "it's my word against yours!" At which point, the woman who was at the desk previously said, "well, now, it's like you're blackmailing us!' Which again, I wouldn't have been telling the campers something that wasn't said. He clearly doesn't care about the campers on their site at all, and given it's a private resort, the woman filming me is actually ILLEGAL, since it's not a public space, and under the Hotel Act, a hotel HAS to take action when a guest is harassing another one.
I told him I was only going to leave if he refunded the full night, to which he finally said, "fine". However, I have not seen any credit to my credit card, and when I sent an email yesterday to enquire as to when I'd be seeing the refund, they did not respond.
I cannot emphasize enough that this is not an establishment to which you should be giving your hard-earned money.
We ended up checking in to the Stonewater Hotel 5 minutes down the road, and were still able to access Ruby Lake itself, as well as spent time at Katherine Lake. The owner of the Stonewater Hotel was receptive, kind and we really enjoyed our short stay there.

Big disappointment
Our cabin was just plain dirty. Over 20 spiders and webs in our room, dust on the nightstands, black mold/grime in the bathrooms… it looked like someone had given it the fastest, least attentive clean possible. The mattresses were old, dipped in the middle and uncomfortable. When we told them that the room wasn’t cleaned and the beds uncomfortable they said “well we’re not the Hilton”. Which I realize, but we still payed a lot of money and I consider basic cleaning to not to an add on. Wish I known the place was so run down and unkept before we booked. We checked out a night early.
