Not pure luxury as expected
The palm reader on the gate was broken so we struggled to initially get into the pod, if you are vertically challenged it would have been difficult to get your arm over the gate to the lock on the other side.
The pod itself was clean inside, as was the bedding... apart from a dead spider at the back of the bed - not to be expected at a 5 star establishment. The pod was very small, including the wet room where you can literally use the toilet, whilst having a shower (always nice and warm with good pressure) and brushing your teeth over the sink all at the same time! It would definitely be no good for someone with disabilities however or mobility issues. Having a wet room was also annoying when needing the toilet after someone's had a shower, wet socks are certainly not luxurious, neither is crossing your legs until the floor dries!
The pod itself is pleasant enough inside, but on closer inspection requires a little TLC, some of the paint is peeling along the bottom of the shower, as the shower door was leaking and obviously peeling the paint with it, whilst leaving a puddle on the floor if the bath mat wasn't pushed right upto it (shower wasn't pointing at the door when in use). There was also bits of material poking off the blind behind the bed, little things like that you'd again expect to be perfect in a 5 star establishment. We were also woken to a "disco" light in the middle of the night. When the fridge light decided to be on the blink, the fridge door was clear glass, so we had to cover the door with several towels to get back to sleep.
There was plenty of tea and coffee as well as bottled water. The welcome hamper was average, certainly not as fancy as the one advertised on the website. For example the website shows plenty of fresh Scottish salmon, veal, fresh bread and other delicious looking Scottish treats. Salmon, veal and bread were not received and there wasn't anything in place of them either. I'm pretty sure that SCOTTISH salmon and veal in Scotland isn't going to run out, so this was clearly cost cutting. The website also lead us to believe that the items are locally sourced, so we were expecting purely Scottish items possibly from local small sellers. However, crackers from Australia and small pots of chutney from Devon were supplied, which was disappointing and clearly from the local Tesco!
The website also shows Bollinger champagne included in the hamper, which costs around £50 and would be much more luxurious than the cheap bottle of fizz received (a quick Google showed it cost £6.50 at the local Morrisons. Given, the website doesnt state that you will receive Bollinger but will receive "fizz", however when aiming to give customers the "luxury" experience that keeps being hammered home on the website, a £6.50 is hardly luxurious as we would spend more than this on our weekly bottle of wine at the local supermarket). The welcome hamper also didn't cater for allergies, which needs addressing.
The hot tub was nice, always warm as well as clean. There was a nice view and private also. Surrounded by fields and a few trees, so nice and quite, although you can see the road in the distance but that's far enough away not to cause any real noise or issues.
All in all, the stay was pleasant and comfortable, but disappointing, especially for the price paid. We have stayed in many a 5 star establishment and feel we got more for our money at other places. In our eyes not quite the pure luxury as hyped up on the website, and certainly more of a 4 star than 5. But as the inside was clean and the hot tub a nice touch we probably would stay again but wouldn't rush back.
