Your personal data
Collecting personal data
We use the personal data you share with us to help provide the best possible experience when you’re using our products and services.
Personal data is information relating to an identified or identifiable individual. This could be as simple as your name or passport number but also includes things like your IP address or cookie identifier.
When you make a booking with one of our travel provider partners, the personal data you submit is shared with the provider directly.
Depending on the platform you’re using and the privacy choices you make with us, certain personal data may also be collected by us and third parties like advertisers, marketing networks and affiliates using cookies and similar technologies.
It’s Skyscanner’s mission to help every traveller explore our world effortlessly. To do this, we use your personal data to make it easier for you to find the very best travel options.
How we use your personal data
Your personal data helps us to improve our platforms and your experience.
We use your personal data to evaluate how, when and why people use Skyscanner, which routes and travel providers are most popular, our most popular features, which ones need improvement, and how people like to hear from us.
We then use this personal data to identify travel trends and find ways to improve our platforms and the travel options we offer you.
We also share personal data about these trends with travel providers and other third parties who want to use insights to improve their own products.
This means we can do things like tell airlines and airports where there’s demand for flights, which could result in new, more convenient routes from your nearest airport.
It’s worth noting, of course, that when we share these travel trends, the data used isn’t identifiable on an individual level.
Personalising your Skyscanner experience
We want to make our platforms as enjoyable and useful as possible. To do this, we use your personal data to:
Show you information or travel options we believe are most relevant to you.
Predict which airport you’re likely to want to depart from and arrive back to, based on your location.
Tailor our marketing communications (if you’ve asked us to send these to you) and adverts to reflect what we believe you’re interested in.
We use personal data to train our machine-learning algorithms to improve the way we interact and communicate with you. We’ll never use directly identifying information, such as contact details or payment data, for these purposes (unless you’ve signed up for email marketing).
As a travel search engine, we don’t take bookings and therefore wouldn’t ever capture your payment data.

Your personal data also helps us to create and maintain your Skyscanner account (if you have one) and provide account benefits like remembering your details and using these during checkout so you can make bookings faster and more easily.
Personalising your Skyscanner experience
Skyscanner will send you communications about:
Your booking or purchase
Your Skyscanner account
Other essential information, such as important changes or updates to our services

Your marketing choices
We’ll send you marketing, such as emails, if you’ve agreed to receive these. You can change your preferences any time by contacting us via our Help Centre.
You can easily unsubscribe at any time using the ‘Unsubscribe’ link at the bottom of all our emails. If you’d still like to get some of our emails, log in to your Skyscanner account, head to the Account section and update your preferences in Price Alert Management and Subscriptions.
