August is the height of summer, and generally the most expensive month to fly. July is a bit cheaper, but you’ll start finding the best deals from mid-September onwards. Early October is one of the best times to visit Greece – flight prices and accommodation are at lower prices, yet you’ll still find good weather.
If Athens is your main destination, the shoulder seasons (March – May and September – November) are a good time to find great Athens flight deals. There will also be less people visiting, which means less queues at the main Athens attractions like the Acropolis.
What about getting to the Greek Islands?
The Port of Piraeus in Athens is the gateway to most of the best Greek islands. You can find ferries to Mykonos and Santorini in the Cyclades, Rhodes in the Dodecanese and short break destinations like Hydra and Aegina.
You can also get to the little local island airports which can’t be reached directly from the UK, but are connected with regular flights from Athens International Airport.
Stay flexible: For example, if you’re OK with flying to Athens in November instead of July. When searching for flights, you can choose ‘Cheapest Month’ to see the best prices during the year. Try it out below for yourself:
You might also find special offers if you’re open to flying from different airports in the UK, or flying to different airports in Greece.
