Belfast City Airport

Belfast City Airport is located three miles northeast of Belfast city centre. The airport advises passengers on European flights to arrive at check-in two hours before their scheduled flight departure time. Check-in desks are located on your left as you enter the airport terminal.

There is a good selection of facilities available for passengers in the airport’s departure lounge. Shops include Boots, WHSmith and a duty free store. For food and drink, passengers can choose from Costa Coffee, the Bushmills pub and the Harvest Market café. The airport also has a currency exchange and offers free, unlimited Wi-Fi connection.

If you’d like to escape the hustle and bustle of the departure lounge, you can head to the Aspire Lounge, a premium option available for a fee. Passengers can enjoy complimentary drinks, snacks, newspapers and a quiet place to spend the time before their flight.

Belfast International Airport

Belfast International Airport is located 11 miles northwest of Belfast city centre. Check-in desks for European flights open around two hours before scheduled flight departure times.

In the departures lounge there are all of the usual high street shops including Superdrug and WHSmith. There’s also a duty free store and a currency exchange. Passengers can get a bite to eat at venues like Burger King, Starbucks or Fed and Watered Restaurant. It’s also possible to speed up your journey to the departures lounge by purchasing a Priority Security Pass. With a pass, you can use fast track lanes through security.

The Business Lounge is Belfast International Airport’s premium lounge. It’s open to all passengers, regardless of ticket class or airline, and provides snacks and drinks throughout the day. You can either book in advance or pay on the day.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is located 9 kilometres from the centre of Amsterdam. The airport has just one main terminal building. In the arrivals hall, there are internet stations, shops, cafés and cash machines.

Car hire desks can also be found in the arrivals hall. Budget, Hertz, National, Europcar, Avis and Enterprise all have offices here and you’ll find them in the Arrivals 3 area.

For passengers travelling into the city centre, public transport is usually the best option. The 197 Airport Express shuttle bus leaves from platform B9 every 15 minutes and heads to a number of popular and central Amsterdam destinations. Alternatively, there’s a train station downstairs from the arrivals hall. Regular trains to Amsterdam Centraal take just 15 minutes to reach the city centre.

What to Expect in Amsterdam

Visitors from Belfast may find that prices in Amsterdam are a little higher than back at home. Eating out and travelling on public transport are a little more expensive. However, alcohol is significantly cheaper, whether you’re buying it from the supermarket or in a bar.

The weather in Amsterdam is mild and quite rainy throughout the year. Temperatures reach the twenties in the summer and drop to lows of around 1°c in the winter.
